Automatically received information

Every computer connected to the Internet is given a domain name and a set of numbers, that serve as that computer’s Internet Protocol (‘IP’). When a visitor requests a page from any Web Site within our network, our Web servers automatically recognize that visitor’s domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed our Site. We use this information to examine our traffic in aggregate, and for security purposes and to investigate misuse of the network, its users, or to cooperate with law enforcement.

We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with us. For example, like many websites, we use ‘cookies’ and we obtain certain types of information when your Web browser accesses Be Challenged. By recognising you, we can provide you with a personalised experience.

We use cookies to identify which areas of our network of Web Sites you have visited or customized, so the next time you visit, those pages may be readily accessible. You can choose whether to accept cookies by changing the settings of your browser. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies, or allow your browser to show you when a cookie is being sent. If you choose not to accept these cookies, your experience at our Site and other Web sites may be diminished and some features may not work as intended.

Cookie Policy

At Be Challenged (we use cookies to make our website more user-friendly. Find out about the main types of cookies we use, and what we use them for.

(Updated 1 August 2018)

Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device. You can find more information about cookies at: www.youronlinechoices.eu

Cookies do lots of different jobs, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improve the user experience. They can also help to ensure that adverts you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.

(When we mention “cookies”, we also mean web beacons and other technologies that collect information in a similar way to cookies on websites or emails. When we mention “websites”, we also mean mobile applications and emails.)

Be Challenged’s cookies typically contain:

  1. a unique name set by the site that generated it
  2. a value – the information within it that recalls your previous activities
  3. an expiration date, which determines how long the cookie will remain active in your browser before being automatically deleted.

The cookies used on this website have been categorised based on the categories found in the ICC UK Cookie guide. A list of all the cookies used on this website by category is set out below.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas of the website. Without these, cookies services you have asked for, like shopping baskets or e-billing, cannot be provided. Because these cookies are strictly necessary we do not need to ask for your consent to use them.

Performance cookies

These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often, and if they get error messages from web pages. These cookies don’t collect information that identifies a visitor.

Web analytics that use cookies to gather data to enhance the performance of a website fall into this category. For example, they may be used for testing designs and ensuring a consistent look and feel is maintained for the user.

Some of these are analytics cookies, set using third party web analytics software, which allow us to monitor our website traffic. For example, we use Google Analytics and Universal Analytics cookies to help us do this. These analytics cookies may also tell us how many of our visitors are male or female, and may summarise the number of visitors who fall within certain age ranges, or certain interest categories. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It is only used to improve how a website works.

Find out more about how Google uses your data or opt out from having your data sent to Google.

By using Be Challenged’s websites you agree we may place these types of cookies on your device.

Functionality cookies

These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make (such as your user name, language or the region you are in) and provide enhanced, more personal features. For instance, these cookies can also be used to remember changes you have made to text size, fonts and other parts of web pages that you can customise. They may also be used to provide services you have asked for such as watching a video or commenting on a blog. The information these cookies collect may be anonymised and they cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.

By using Be Challenged’s websites you agree we may place these types of cookies on your device.

Targeting cookies or Advertising Cookies

These cookies collect information about your browsing habits in order to make advertising relevant to you and your interests. These cookies are used to deliver adverts more relevant to you and your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement as well as help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaigns. They are usually placed by advertising networks with the website operator’s permission. They remember that you have visited a website and this information is shared with other organisations such as advertisers. Quite often targeting or advertising cookies will be linked to site functionality provided by the other organisation.

By using Be Challenged’s websites you agree we may place these types of cookies on your device.

Third Party Cookies and social networks

If you click on a hyperlink from Be Challenged’s websites to any third-party websites (for example, if you ‘share’ content from Be Challenged’s websites with friends or colleagues through social networks), you may be sent cookies from these third-party websites.

Third-party websites will have their own privacy and cookie policies which Be Challenged cannot control. Please check the third-party websites for more information about their cookies and how to manage them.
