WINNERS!

Ecommunity - the winner of Best Team Building Program and Gold Medalist in Green Awards

We are the proud winner of the Best Team Building Program and Gold Medalist for the Green Training Award with our program Ecommunity. Ecommunity was developed throughout 2009. What started as a small idea grew into a big project and with the help of developers James Druce (Excel Guru and self educated environmentalist), David Trumbull (Software Developer),Charlie Knaggs (Environmental Scientist) and Cheyne Burns (Illustrator) we were able to build game much more brilliant and far reaching than we ever anticipated.

Best Tem Building Training Program - Platinum Winner

We submitted the work we did with the 16 department heads for Westpac in November 2009 which was the first big test for the game. Ecommunity proved it's versatility by working towards four outcomes:

1. Small part of the Big Pciture

2. Things change and we have to adjust and keep moving forward

3. Sustainability - making decisions for the future

4. Working together as a team

Green Training Award - Laearning with the environment in mind - Gold Winner

The drive to bond, when met, is associated with strong positive EMOTIONS such as love and caring and, when not, with negative ones such as loneliness and anomie. At work, the drive to bond accounts for the enormous boost in MOTIVATION when employees feel proud of belonging to the organisation and for loss of morale when the institution betrays them. The most effective way to fulfill the drive to bond is to create a culture that promotes TEAMWORK, COLLABORATION, OPENNESS, and FRIENDSHIP.

Ecommunity Aim

The game is designed to bring out different types of personalities through a combination of information, challenges and circumstances which teams face during the course of the game. First and foremost, the game is designed to be fun and interactive. Our aim is to place team members in an environment that is so engaging and different to the real world that they behave as their true selves. This unguarded and natural individual and team behaviour provides the most practical and relevant context for reflection and debriefing.

The other fundamental purpose of the game is to educate team members about the effect we have on the environment as a community through practical application. The game is based on real principles of energy supply, population growth, emissions, finite resources, biodiversity and the fine balance which brings these all together. All the information on pollution, energy supplies, outputs and inputs has been derived from extensive research and calibration to make the game a real life simulation.

Desired Ecommunity outcomes:

· Interactive fun through simulated eco-themed challenges.

· Foster an understanding of the win/ win philosophy.

· Big picture approach and how individual and team contributions effect the end goal.

Ecommunity outcomes were achieved through the following game characteristics:

· The game is not about one winner, but rather it encapsulates the philosophy that each team is a small part of a bigger picture.

· The information provided to team members builds practical awareness of ecological sustainability.

· The varied challenges and structure of the game engages different personalities at different stages in the game.

· Provides a powerful metaphor for discussion of otherwise confronting issues facing most teams.
