Crossing the Spit
In November 2007 young adventures James Castrission and Justin Jones became the first kayaking expedition to cross the Tasman Sea. Against all odds, James and Justin paddled from the East Coast of Australia to New Plymouth on the New Zealand coastline in just over 60 days. By the time the adventurers had finished their extraordinary feat they had paddled some 3318km experiencing sharks, fatigue, atrocious weather and the unnerving feeling of going backwards.
The planning, technology needed, risk management and training for this expedition took James and Justin over three years.
In Crossing the Spit these young men will take your group on a journey through Sydney’s beautiful Middle Harbour, recounting their inspiring voyage and sharing the trials and tribulations that came in succeeding such a mission.
Teams will be given double kayaks and GPS navigational systems which they will use to move between a number of simulated scenarios. Teams will then move back to a venue of their choice where James and Justin will share a twenty minute video presentation with the group.
This unique team program focuses on the experiences of James Castrission and Justin Jones and how you can relate them to your everyday team. The program is designed to simulate a journey, similar to theirs, which through planning, communication and teamwork they conquered one of the last firsts of Australian adventuring.
