	Title: George Gregan: Halfback, Half Forward Authors: George Gregan (Autobiography) Publisher: Pan Macmillan Australia Reviewer: Kingsley Seale Review: While my review of this book my be slightly biased as I am a rugby tragic, I truly thought it was a tremendously insightful look into a great sportsman and a real survivor in a tough sport. Gregan is incredibly honest in his accounts of various different events and speaks earnestly about his many different experiences brought about through the success he experienced playing for his country for so long. Throughout the book there are two common themes: firstly Gregan constantly speaks of his preparation and routine in particular when it came to his rugby. He religiously did whatever it took to minmise injury and ensure maximum performance whenever he took the field. The other is about mateship and the bonds that are formed through playing a professional sport. As he says “for all the professionalism, the scrutiny, the passion and the patriotism, this sense of fun and camaraderie across teams and nations remains a pure part of rugby”, he spoke of the friends he has both from Australia and around the world because of as he describes “this great game”. I thoroughly enjoyed the book as an avid rugby fan but also as an admirer of hard work. Gregan was not always spoken about highly by the media however he always took all the comments in his stride and never once lowered his standards when it would have been so easy to do. He was a player who spent so long at the top without losing the determination and attention to detail required to stay there, he will go down as one of the greats, a top book and highly recommended.
